Determining the Height of the Stair Landing
Determining the height of the stair landing can be confusing for most people but there are some easy steps that you can follow during this process. The first thing you should do is decide on the number of steps that you will have on your stairway. The steps refer to the horizontal section that people walk on a stairway. The vertical section of the stairway is refereed to as a riser.
In most stairways, there is usually an additional riser. This means that if you have 11 steps, you need 12 risers. To determine the height, you will multiply the height of each riser with the number of risers from the floor and this gives you the height of the stair landing. To get an accurate stair landing, make sure you subtract the thickness of the sheathing used on the stair landing from your general measurement before putting in the landing joists.
