Most local areas have passed by laws that must be followed in order to get framing permits. Most contractors are familiar with these regulations. For single dwellings inhabited by families, the stairs should have minimum headroom of 6’ 8”. In addition, it should have a stair depth of 10” and inclination angle should be 34 to 40 degrees.
It should also have bull nose with minimum space for clearance at the top and bottom of the stairs. It is necessary for moving furniture. There should be handrails on one or both sides of the stairs. The hand rails should be located at 34” to 38” on the treads nose. If you fail to follow these regulations it will lead to you failing the inspection test leading to loss of money and time.
